  • Research presentation by students at DEIM 2023

    2023.3.8

Our lab members present their research every year at the Forum on Data Engineering and Information Management (DEIM), a domestic forum held in early March.
For the past three years, DEIM was held online due to COVID-19. However, DEIM 2023 marked the first partial in-person event in four years. Six students of our group gave presentations this year:

    • Erina Yamakawa: “Similarity Measurement for Each Component Considering the Meaning of Triplets”
    • Eisaku Yoshikawa: “Content-based Exclusion Queries in Keyword-Based Image Search”
    • Yuto Ogawa: “Classifying Nodes into Hierarchical Ranks in SNS Follow Graphs”
    • Kokoro Sasaki: “Extended HITS for Identifying Topic Authorities on Twitter”
    • Mamoru Yamakawa: “A Directed Network Generation Model Based on Social Network Characteristics”
    • Shuhei Kobayashi: “Estimating Popularity Based on Wikipedia Page View Counts”

DEIM 2023 introduced a new hybrid format that combined the convenience of online participation with the benefits of in-person interactions. Oral presentations were conducted online first, followed by in-person poster sessions held later at Nagaragawa Convention Center in Gifu.

Below is a photo of the view from the convention center’s rooftop.

This year, Eisaku won the Best Interactive Award, given to the top three posters out of 342 presentations. Additionally, Eisaku and Shuhei received the Student Presentation Award for their outstanding oral presentations.

DEIM also hosts exhibition booths from various sponsor companies. One of them was Rakuten’s booth, where we saw the “Shopping Panda” mascot (which we just learned is its official name!).

    Great job, everyone!
