On March 24, 2022, we held a farewell party for the graduating members. Coincidentally, it fell on the same date as last year’s farewell party.
This year, four members graduated from our lab: Masafumi Iwanaga, Hirotaka Nagashima, Youhei Yamada, and Ayato Watanabe.
As in the previous year, we prioritized COVID-19 safety measures, so the farewell event was held without a group meal. All participants wore masks and used hand sanitizer to ensure a safe gathering.
Our lab has a tradition of creating and presenting original certificates at farewell parties. However, this year, we introduced a new idea: instead of certificates, we gifted each graduate a custom lab mug.
One side features a stamp of Professor Tajima’s face, while the other side showcases the legendary cow that has long reigned over our lab’s whiteboard.
Compared to last year, COVID-19 restrictions had eased somewhat, but we still faced challenges, such as DEIM 2022 being held online instead of in person so being unable to go on a lab trip attend a in-person conference. The pandemic continued to disrupt our plans in many ways.
Despite these difficulties, all four members successfully reached their graduation. We sincerely congratulate them on this milestone!
